The Tweeter’s Guide to Good News Friday

The Good News Friday (#gnf) team is in search of  tweeters to make the day a success. We're hoping that you engage with our project in positive thinking. To find us, search for @Mediaflash

Tell me immediately what I can do to help

Your mission:

There are numerous ways in which your Mecca, twitter.com, can be used to help with Good News Friday. You can use any and all of the below.

1. Tweet about your own good news – big or small.

Example: I have just finished Mike Tyson’s Punchout. I have been working on this since 1987. (Big)

I have found my keys at last. (Less big.)

2. Tweet about some good news you’ve heard on the grapevine and help others to get their good news out there.

Example: RT @soandso I’m really smug because I have lost weight.

Note: the aim of the day is not to deride the good news of others, but to support them, no matter how smug they may be.

3. Take a twitpic of something positive.
Find something wonderfully weird, optimistic and cheerful and post it on twitter tomorrow. What would make you smile?

4. Tell a joke.
Puns are allowed, as are Knock-Knocks, and Doctor Doctors. Spread your own cringey brand of humour!

5. Do a good deed.
Buy your workmate a coffee on your way in. Spring for their favourite cereal so they’re set for the week. Hold the door open for every person you see, male, female, animal or mineral. Then brag about it on Twitter so we can all see how nice you are.

6. Buck the trend and enforce an embargo on whinging via twitter for a day.

Examples of not whinging on Twitter include (but are not limited to):

The weather is great, sure isn’t the rain good for the grass?

Oh boy but I love queues.

My bus was an hour late today, and I burned off my breakfast running to work.

How much do I like the government? A lot, that’s how much.

Yes we have no running water, but it’s nice to have an excuse to see what other people’s showers look like.

7. Decorate your desk in honour of Good News Friday. Show us just how positive your PC can look with a twitpic, a little bit of ingenuity and a glue gun. (We are not liable for any damage your computer suffers as a result of said glue gun.)

8. Fashion badges with Good News Friday on them. Encourage your workmates to wear them all day. Post a picture of the badge on twitter, or a link to your template so that others can plagiarise your creativity and make it their own.

9. Give some free advice on Twitter. Dazzle the world with your acumen and expertise.

10. Organise Good News Friday forfeits for you and your colleagues. Allocate points per task, make a leaderboard and hang it ceremoniously in the office. Keep us updated on twitter as to who is in the lead.

Forfeit example: Pledge to answer the phone with ‘Happy Good News Friday’ every time it rings.

So get involved and champion some cheer!!
